Review: Afternoon Tea at The Milestone Hotel
The Milestone Hotel has been consistently recognised for their exceptional tea. I was super excited to try out their tea. They were also awarded by Forbes travel guide earlier this year as One of The Finest Properties in the world. So I was delighted to have the opportunity to visit.
As you walk in you are taken into the Tea Room where you are surrounded with beautiful rich furnishings, exquisite oil paintings and beautiful original dark wood. We were you are seated and handed a menu presenting all the different tea they had to offer. They also serve Champagne and Mock-tails which I thought was a great alternative for those who don’t drink. Not long after we were served our drinks we were presented with a stand of beautiful treats. The sever explained each individual segment.
We started with the sandwiches and quite frankly was very much taken back by the variety we had to try from. First up was the roasted Hereford beef, watercress & horseradish Pesto. The beef melted in your mouth and that pesto was a flavour combination which lifted the dish. Of course the classics free range egg mayonnaise & watercress and the cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches both well seasoned and beautifully presented. The chicken mayonnaise incased in a sandwich wheel almost and coated with toasted almonds.. heavenly. The chicken was super moist and well seasoned but that crust added a different dimension.
Next we tried the goats cheese and beetroot topped with delicate a basil chutney which cut through the earthy flavours. Finally the smoked salmon with the crème fresh finished with fresh dill and lemon zest which completed the salmon. The chef has really taken time to look at each sandwich and it shows. The little added details really elevated each sandwich. Each sandwich allowed you to have a complete differently experience no two sandwiches were alike.
The scones are really the star of the show when it comes to Afternoon Tea. And these did not disappoint. Not long after we finished out sandwiches out came the scones. Four perfectly golden scones ever so light and still warm. Served with clotted cream and home made strawberry jam. We were served both plain and raisin scones. These were also very good.
Finally the patisserie my favourite part. A work of culinary art. Five beautiful patisseries showcasing a serious amount of both skill and incredible flavours. We were in for a treat! The infused olive oil semolina cake with cream and thin slice of plum on top is a cake I didn’t know I needed! Light crumbly cake all withheld together with some cream and the freshness of the plum.. delicious! Who doesn’t love a macaron! A perfectly crisp exterior lightly flavoured with cardamom and filled with coffee. Two flavours I wouldn’t of thought to put together but complimented each other well.
The milk chocolate bavaou was light as a feather filled with a surprise indulgent scoop of caramel sat on a perfectly baked sable biscuit absolutely divine. Next up was the baked cheese cake topped with a fig with a buttery ginger biscuit base. Lastly the blueberry choux bun with Tonka bean. Crisp choux exterior filled with a light creamy Tonka bean filling. I love how they used the seasonal fruit to cut through the richness of all the patisseries. All the portions were just enough for you to thoroughly enjoy the experience and still have space for the rest. Every sweet delight served was sensational.
Overall the service was impeccable, the hotel itself had all the things you would expect to see in a Luxury but still had a lovely homely feel to it.
The staff were so attentive and for the main event itself. The Afternoon Tea excelled in all aspects. Everything was beautifully presented and you could sense a great autumnal theme which was carried out throughout. Easily one of the Best Afternoon Tea’s in London you must try!
